Meetup for the Technion Alumni Community in Germany
The Technion Alumni Community in Germany held a networking and science event in Berlin with Prof. Yoav Sagi from the Technion Faculty of Physics and co-founder of Q-Factor, presenting "Introduction to Quantum Technologies: Computing, Communication, and Sensing".
The lecture will make an acquaintance with quantum technologies, with an emphasis on neutral atoms.
It will begin with a brief overview of the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics and how they enable advanced technological applications.
Then it will survey the three core domains of quantum technologies—computing, communication, and sensing—highlighting representative examples from each field.
Finally, it will present the main physical platforms for implementing quantum technologies, including superconducting circuits, trapped ions, photons, and cold atoms, and discuss the advantages and challenges of each approach.
About the speaker: Dr. Yoav Sagi is an Associate Professor of Physics at the Technion and a co-founder of Q-Factor, a deep-tech startup developing a neutral-atom quantum computing core.
He earned his B.Sc. degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the Hebrew University (Talpiot program) and an M.Sc. from the Technion, both magna cum laude.
He completed his Ph.D. at the Weizmann Institute (2011), where he studied ultracold atomic gases and received the John F. Kennedy Prize for his thesis.
He later held a Rothschild Postdoctoral Fellowship at JILA, Boulder, before returning to the Technion in 2014.
