Thetis AI

Thetis AI is a deep-tech startup building intelligent systems for route optimization in commercial maritime shipping.
We help fleet operators reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, minimize transit time, and navigate complex sea conditions by leveraging advanced machine learning and real-time maritime data.
Our platform is built to support large-scale decision-making and improve operational efficiency across the global shipping industry.
We are looking for a motivated and skilled AI Researcher to join our R&D team and help develop the core algorithms behind Thetis AI’s voyage optimization engine.
You will work with large datasets (e.g., AIS, weather forecasts, historical voyages) and design models that recommend optimal routes for different vessel types under operational and environmental constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and develop machine learning models for:
- Maritime route prediction and optimization
- Fuel-efficient speed/path selection
- Forecasting vessel performance based on historical data
- Design and evaluate experiments using real-world shipping datasets
- Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate models into production systems
- Contribute to internal tools for simulation, benchmarking, and route evaluation
Qualifications:
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field
- Strong programming skills in Python, with experience using ML and data science libraries (e.g., NumPy, pandas, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
- Solid foundation in algorithms, optimization, and data modeling
- 5+ years of experience in applied machine learning or algorithm development
- Ability to work independently and think critically about model assumptions and performance
- Experience working with time-series data and forecasting models – Preferred
- Background in optimization under constraints (e.g., fuel, time, weather) – Preferred
- Experience with geospatial data, graph search algorithms (e.g., A*, Dijkstra), or dynamic programming – Preferred
- Familiarity with AIS data, maritime navigation, or logistics – Preferred
